What should I bring for a day hike and what do you provide during the treks?

  • · hiking boots or a strong pair of trainers, flip-flops
  • · torch or headlight (for overnight treks)
  • · water bottle
  • · small bag pack
  • · medical kit (mosquito repellent, sunscreen, etc., any medicine of your own needs)
  • · swim wear

Wee bring:

  • · campsite with tent, mattresses, mosquito nets, sleeping bags
  • · lunch (not included in 3-hour trek), breakfast and dinner during overnight treks
  • · life jackets and helmets if rafting conditions call for it

What is the best time of year to go hiking?

We offer trekking throughout the year.

Sumatra has mostly tropical climate – hot and humid. Temperatures are around 28 C° all year round. In the jungle, they can drop to 20 C° in the night. Humidity ranges between 70 and 95%.

The rainy season here starts late September/beginning of October and lasts until the end of March or April with heavy rainfalls primarily in the night but as well during the day.

The dry season from April to September comes with sunny days and occasional precipitations.

Especially here in Bukit Lawang, right at the border of the jungle, rain is always a possibility. So be prepared for every eventuality: Bring sunscreen, a raincoat, light summer clothes and something warm for your nights in the jungle.

What should I do when we meet the orangutans and other wildlife?

When we encounter wildlife especially the orangutans, give them plenty of space and do not approach them. Take your pictures from a distance, don’t feed them and follow instructions from our guides.
